  • February Workout, Avalanche, February 16, 2019

February Workout, Avalanche, February 16, 2019

    9:00 AM-4:00 PM
    2019.02.16

The scent discrimination workout is moved to March 16 and 17.

    Avalanche Training this weekend

    Location:
Noblets this weekend https://goo.gl/maps/Q7E3Wv8muC22. 9 AM both days. It’s past Woodland about 8 miles. Avy workouts are a lot of work and a lot of fun. Lots of digging… The dogs love it and its great training even if you don’t plan on certifying in avalanche. Please bring friends, family and guys off the street (JK) to help hide and dig. Remember that avy tubes are a little claustrophobic and pretty tight for big people. Also, if you have extra pads that can go in the tubes, it will be appreciated. I believe most of ours have disappeared over the years.

    Equipment:
Snowshoes or skis (Note: unless you and your dog are used to skiing together, I wouldn’t recommend using skis. It’s too easy to cut paws and legs with sharp edges)
Warm, waterproof clothing – bring extras in case you get wet
    Water and food.
Shovels, probes, beacons – if you have extras, please bring and share – we have a limited number of group beacons
    Sunscreen
A leash and/or some sort of tie out for your dog
A mat or pad for your dog to lay on
High level treats and toys for rewards

Come prepared for full days. We will do a safety briefing and do beacon drills and testing. We will do partial burials, motivation exercises and puppy problems as well as some avalanche awareness training. Our Avalanche Testing standard is now located in the forms area of the web site. Please read and familiarize yourself with the contents.

Please contact Dee or Jan for questions about training or gear needed.
